Initiator: The International Non-profit Association Europeade

The initiator of Europeade was Mon De Clopper (1922-1998), a Fleming, the founding chairman of the Movement for Flemish Folk Culture (the Vlaamse Volkskunstbeweging). He organized the first Europeade in Antwerp (Belgium) in 1964, bringing together Flemings, Dutch, English, French and Germans as well as Ukrainian, Yugoslavian and Polish emigrants. First motto for Europeade “For the Youth of Europe” clearly disclosed Mon De Clopper’s aim to spread peace among European youth. He also believed that, after the horror of two world wars, youth has to concentrate on the creation of free and peaceful Europe. Today’s motto of the festival is “Free and Peaceful Europe”, where all different cultures of different nations get along. Up to 4000-5000 participants from different European countries take part in this 5-days event, which attracts the flow of several times greater number of spectators.
