Directorate activities

In terms of the proposals of the society, the directorate of the commemoration of Lithuania’s millennium and its Coordinator board prepared Lithuania’s Millennium Program (Program) that was approved by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania on the 18^th July, 2003. The program id implemented by the directorate of the commemoration of Lithuania’s millennium, the Ministry of Culture, counties and municipalities of Lithuania. Museums and other institutions. The program invites all the citizens of Lithuania, state, municipal and social establishments and organizations to prepare and implement the projects, allocated to the following anniversary. The directorate of the commemoration of Lithuania’s millennium executes the part of the following program from the foreseen subsidies in the State Budget.

- Publishing and scientific research projects

During the implementation of the Program aims since 1997, the directorate of the commemoration of Lithuania’s millennium organizes the competitions related to the preparation and publishing of the publications in the fields of Lithuanian History and Culture annually. The published publications are presented to cultural and educative establishments of Lithuania (to the greatest and scientific libraries of higher schools, to the public libraries of cities and districts, to gymnasiums and colleges of humanitarian and artistic profile according to present opportunities - to comprehensive schools) as well as to Lithuanian diplomatic representative offices abroad.

The formed top quality specialist commissions assess and select all publications proposed to the competitions. The publications of the directorate of the commemoration of Lithuania’s millennium are presented in the events allocated to new books, on the programs of Lithuanian radio and on the website of the directorate of the commemoration of Lithuania’s millennium.

- Cultural heritage and architectural projects

The directorate of the commemoration of Lithuania’s millennium is directly responsible for the execution of educative cultural heritage projects. In 2006 for the first time there was gained funding for the following projects.
